Hypothyroidism - any home remedies?

Source: Author: Time:2008-07-09 Tag: Click:
My sisters have hypo and my labs indicate I do. Don't want to go the conventional Dr route with syntetic meds - these did not work for sisters, they both ended up with multinodular thyroid after being Doctored for a few yrs. Want NATURAL only. Any suggestions as who to go to that will accomodate me, or can I go to health store and treat self with foods, and health remedies? Experts only please. Thanks!!Hypothyroidism is typically a sign of Kidney Yang deficiency in Chinese medicine. Using Kidney Yang tonics will treat the root of the problem, as in Chinese medicine we see the thyroid imbalance as a symptom, not the root cause. The Kidney System also houses the reproductive qi and essence (genetic material-DNA) and it is not surprising that this runs in your family. But you can compensate for genetic factors with tonics.Good Luck & Here is more about tonics:Well, there are several things that can help to nourish the Thyroid that are natural. L-Tyrosine (an Amino Acid) and Iodine (a mineral, typically from Kelp) are two of the most common and most popular items. You can get dessicated bovine thyroidYou may want to consider Armour. It is a natural version of the synthetic hormone. Check up in Yahoo Groups. Everyone I've talked to said Armour is the most amazing thing in the world. You do need a prescription for it though. I suggest that you not to self medicate. Thyroid probs are too dangerous. Talk to your doc about Armour and natural remedies. If he says he doesn't do that sort of thing, find a doctor who does! It's your body! You and your doctor should be partners in this! Good luck!dessicated bovine thyroid is thryoid of cattle in pill form. There's not much proof it helps. My sister uses iodine supplements (Kelp). You should also be aware that several foods that are healthy under normal circumstances may suppress thyroid function. Soy, brussels sprouts, cabbage, to name a few. You can research more on www.welquest.mdregular cardio exercise is also important. There is a great website you should consult. It's www.aboutthyroid.com. That website gave me information I couldn't get anywhere else--including from endocrinologists, who all seem to prescribe synthroid. There are some alternatives you may find by researching this site. Good luck!!!There is a NATURAL medication called "Armour". It works just like levoxyl. I also agree w/ oldtimekid. L-Tyrosine & kelp/iodine but not together w/ Armour.http://www.armourthyroid.com/I'd stay with taking a approved medication for the condition, but I'd go with Armour thyroid. Armour thyroid is USP inspected and is a natural medication. I will post links about it below. It is adjusted by free t4 and free t3. I tried the synthetic meds and they did not work for me, but Armour did.Stay away from the over the counter thyroid supplements as they are not inspected and may carry disease. There are suplements that can approve the conversion of T4 into t3 like zinc, selenium, and ltryosine, but I'd try the Armour first. I take Armour and these supplements and almost every symptom of hypothyroidism is gone. I got the thyroid dose regulated first by getting the free t4 midrange and the free t3 high in range.I'm not sure what you mean by an expert. If you mean a doctor who treats the condition you are not going to find the info you need as most only treat lab values. I found patients with the condition who have found a way to be symptom free are the true experts. If you have hypothyroid, you're iodine deficient. Read this--http://mind-mart.com/iodine-deficiency/Try eating as much seaweed as possible. Sushi is good because it's wrapped in Nori which is seaweed. You can try iodine. It is an essential nutrient the thyroid uses. It is not as prevelant in our food chain. That is why the make iodized salt now, but if you put it in a container with an open lid it will turn into a halogen gas and you're not really getting it anyway. You can buy over-the-counter iodine at a food suppplement store. It will or should give you more energy. Dessicated thyroid is actually thyroid tissue you would take to help yours repair itself.Hypothyroidism is a hormonal disorder in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Hormonal disturbances cannot be cured with natural remedies but you can always check them out to see if there is any positive difference.Iodine in Bladderwrack Extract is included in the treatment of Hypothyroidism as it is essential for the production of thyroid hormone and Iodine deficiency can lead to hypothyroidism. The thyroid hormone (thyroxine) tends to be lower in those with lower blood levels of zinc. In people with low zinc, supplementing with zinc may lead to increased thyroxine levels. Selenium plays a role in thyroid hormone metabolism and may therefore be important in the treatment of Hypothyroidism.# Viruses and bacteria. Infections that depress thyroid hormone production usually cause permanent hypothyroidism.# Medication. Nitroprusside, lithium, or iodides can induce hypothyroidism. Because patients who use these medications are closely monitored by their doctors, this side effect is very rare.# Pituitary gland malfunction. This is a rare condition in which the pituitary gland fails to produce enough TSH to activate the thyroid's production of T4.# Congenital defect. One of every 4,000 babies is born without a properly functioning thyroid gland.# Diet. Because the thyroid makes T4 from iodine drawn from food, an iodine-deficient diet can cause hypothyroidism. Adding iodine to table salt and other common foods has eliminated iodine deficiency in the United States. Certain foods (cabbage, rutabagas, peanuts, peaches, soybeans, spinach) can interfere with thyroid hormone production.# Environmental contaminants. Certain man-made chemicals-such as PCBs-found in the local environment at high levels may also cause hypothyroidism.Alternative treatments are primarily aimed at strengthening the thyroid and will not eliminate the need for thyroid hormone medications. Herbal remedies to improve thyroid function and relieve symptoms of hypothyroidism include bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculosus), which can be taken in capsule form or as a tea. Some foods, including cabbage, peaches, radishes, soybeans, peanuts, and spinach, can interfere with the production of thyroid hormones. Anyone with hypothyroidism may want to avoid these foods. The Shoulder Stand yoga position (at least once daily for 20 minutes) is believed to improve thyroid function.hi,You may try thyromine, Thyromine consists of 7 main ingredients.
